Serving Spencer Mountain from Our Belmont Location

Spencer Mountain is the Charlotte region’s third-highest peak at 1,250 feet, just behind Kings Pinnacle and Crowders Mountain within Crowders Mountain State Park. According to the Carolina Thread Trail, the mountain is located just north of Gaston County’s 344-acre George Poston Park.

We’re based in Belmont, approximately 10-15 minutes from the Spencer Mountain area. The mountain is visible from miles around, and the Charlotte skyline is clearly visible from its summit. Spencer Mountain is the northern terminus of the iconic 23-mile planned Matthews-Belk South Fork River Corridor trail.

Construction on new public trails at Spencer Mountain began in February 2026. According to the Carolina Thread Trail, once complete, the Spencer Mountain Trails will welcome the public to explore three miles of trail around and up the mountain, including an easy loop trail around the base and a switchback trail up the western face to the summit. The trails are anticipated to open to the public in fall 2026.
